I was born in a small town. And I live in a small town.
Ok, ok.
I grew up in a farming community known more for it's high school football team than fashion. We hung out at the local pizza place more than we ever did the shopping mall or movie theatre. But, going into college, I always knew that I wanted to design. I choose fashion design and marketing but always staggered back to my curiosity for interior design.
About mid way through college I decided that I was intimidated by the big cities that I would have to navigate if I wanted to go anywhere in the fashion world. So, I took a job at a high end furniture company that focuses on interior design and have never looked back. It will be 6 years in April.
In that 6 years, I met my husband, settled in our little home, had 2 wonderful little rascals, and made many new friends through my decision to stay in a small town.
That brings me to today. The Turquoise Rabbit? What's that all about? Let me share with you.
Last spring I came across this ceramic rabbit statue. It was turquoise. I became obsessed. It was whimsical, cheerful, it made me happy. Alas, when it came home with me it didn't really "fit" in my home. Even though it was returned, it is still my favorite accessory purchase of all time.
That's what made me change my outlook on design, Maybe it doesn't "fit" in your home but if it makes you feel good that's all that matters. Your home is a representation of you and the things you love. So what if everything doesn't match or look perfect. If a turquoise rabbit makes you smile there's a place for it in your home. Own it. Rock it.
This blog is dedicated to sharing my knowledge. One day I look forward to expanding it to offer a virtual design program but until then I will post design tips and inspiration.
Please contact me with questions or anything you may want me to discuss.
